Our History

Ideal Fashions Inc. was originally a coat manufacturing company that was established in 1936. In the late 1930’s, the original founder of Ideal had two World War II surplus Quonset huts added to either side of the building. At this time, he also made the TV game show ‘Pick Your Ideal’ which was broadcasted in the Philadelphia area and hosted by the then famous, Ernie Kovacs. Along with this, one of the most famous jingles of all time was born. This jingle is still known throughout the tri-state area to this day! The words are “If you’ve got a passion for fashion and you’ve got a craving for savings take the wheel of your automobile and swing on down to Ideal!” You can hear the original version when you call the store, just ask to be put on hold!

When the original owner made the choice to move on from Ideal, the second owner came in and also made his stamp in the company. Ideal soon became the largest prom store in New Jersey! He kept the things that Ideal was already known for, coats, sportswear and fashionable products at low prices while starting a whole new era for Ideal. When this respected man passed away, local citizens thought Ideal was going to go out of business. Fortunately, it didn’t!

The current owners took over in May of 2008. They opened 2 satellite locations in Sea Isle City, NJ and Washington Township, NJ. These small town boutiques specialize in all formal wear from day dresses to the most exquisite gown. The Sea Isle location is only open during the summer months, where as the Washington Township location is open all year long. Sea Isle is different from both Hammonton and Washington Township because it does not carry any evening wear. It is a trendy and fun boutique. We hope to see you in one of our 3 locations soon!
